2012 is going to be a big year for the Tea Party movement all over the U.S. We will be working to save our Republic. If the same people are reelected, it may be all over.

The latest craze is to use environmental issues as an excuse to force a collectivist agenda on the rest of us whether we want it or not. From presidential executive orders, to the EPA and BLM, and an endless parade of other federal TLAs (Three Letter Acronyms), to the governor's desk and state bureacracies, all the way down to county and city councils all across the country, our rights to develop and to use our own property to enjoy or to earn a living as needed, are being sharply curtailed. Don't be fooled: few people want to trash the environment, but isn't it preferable to protect our natural resources without forfeiting our natural rights?

So, in 2012, we have our work cut out for us: We need to replace the wastrels, environmental extremists, illiberal control freaks, panderers, kakistocrats, and the clueless, operating at all levels of government, with principled, constitutional literates in 2012.

We'll have to doorbell, write, donate, persuade, convince, cajole, educate, volunteer, run for office, serve on boards and commissions and attend our county and city council meetings. It isn't going to be easy, but if we don't do it, who will? (We already know who, and they're the problem.) We are the new counterculture; the new dissidents! We're challenging the political establishment, and they don't like it one bit!

What time is it? It's almost 2012! Let's roll!

February 15 -- General Meeting

What: We'll kick off the new year with a general meeting to work out our ambitious agenda for 2012. Our educational speaker for the evening is Sharon Hanek (Research Mom). Her topic is Globalism/Sustainable Development/Growth Management/Smart Growth and its impact on our natural rights and civil liberties.

When: February 15, 2012 at 6:00 p.m. until approximately 8:00 p.m.

Where: Building Industry Association of Whatcom County, 1650 Baker Creek Place, Bellingham (driving instructions...)

Why: To reverse deficit spending and the concentration of power in central government, in order to preserve states' rights and individual liberty for future generations.

Unsustainable Insanity

The Washington State Legislature ended their special session without actually balancing the budget. But even with a whopping tax increase, Washington State will run billions of dollars short. Washington State Wire reports:

OLYMPIA, Dec. 21.—The way folks are talking at the state Capitol these days, you might get the idea that Washington’s $2 billion nightmare is the budget crisis to end all budget crises.

It’s a shortfall that ranks with the biggest of all time, they say. The state hasn’t seen anything like it since the Great Depression. After three years of big budget cuts, state spending is still out of whack. And now they’ve reached the end of the line. They just can’t cut any more. And so they’re going to have to do something to jack up taxes next year.

Non-Partisan Does Not Mean Un-Principled

Some people seem to be confused about our commitment to being non-partisan. The Bellingham Tea Party steadfastly refuses to endorse any candidate, ballot initiative, or party. We remain critical of both of the major parties on various issues. Advocating a reasoned approach to public business should not be confused with partisanship. We support constitutional government, and we encourage political parties to do the same. Nobody should be surprised if we take a "preservative" position on any issue: preserving the truths that our nation's founders believed were "self evident" (like inalienable rights) is not anti-progress. We hold that progress and opportunity fare best when individual freedom is secure.

Online Contribution System Streamlined

We have received reports from readers of frustration with our online contribution system. Job One: Keeping Them Honest

People frequently ask, "How can I help?" Aside from your generous donations that keep this website on the air, and helps the Bellingham Tea Party sponsor other events -- the politicians in Washington, D.C. know that most people are preoccupied with work and family activities. We need you to keep them honest. Don't let them out of your sight for a moment. They need to hear from you.

We have provided the following list of news organizations to help you stay abreast of political developments. As you read the news articles, please consider, "Which article of the Constitution gives government the authority to do that?" You should find no shortage of material to discuss with your elected public servants:

We the People must contact our public servants early and often, on every issue that concerns us, and let them know what we think, with constitutionally-based arguments. Here's how.

The Question That Every Politician Must Answer

When you contact them, please, always remember to ask, "Which article of the Constitution gives you the authority to do that?" Encourage everyone you know to ask the same question. Encourage bloggers, and reporters in the mainstream media to ask the same question. Write letters to the editor asking the same question. We need this question to "go viral" nationwide.

If more and more people started asking this question, most of our worst political problems, in all branches and at all levels of government would go away by themselves, almost overnight. When a reporter asked Nancy Pelosi that question about the health care bill, her response was, "Are you serious?" Well, we are serious, and politicians should be afraid to step out of their offices without a credible answer to that question. It is the only "litmus test" that we need.

It really takes so little effort, that it is at least worth a try. The beauty of it is, this really should appeal to honest people from anywhere on the political spectrum.

Get Involved

Early Volunteers

Now is the time for all good Americans to come to the aid of their Country. Volunteer, Participate and Contribute to the Bellingham Tea Party. Americans from across the land are coming together to express their outrage, fear and concern for this country we love. 2012 may be the most important year in our recent history. We cannot sit on the couch and wring our hands. We must move beyond our comfort zone and become involved; it is required in order to preserve our Freedom. Americans must take back our country and we must do it now. Our elected officials should be afraid of us. It is clear from your participation that you understand all of this.

When the people fear their government, there is tyranny; when the government fears the people, there is Liberty.

~ John Basil Barnhill (often mis-attributed to Thomas Jefferson)

Volunteer

  1. Would you like to host a constitutional study group? Please email 5000YearLeap@BhamTeaParty.org.
  2. We have a busy summer in store, with parades, rallies, booths at various county celebrations and events, including the county fair. Volunteer to help set up, attend, or tear down. Or just "be there". There is strength in numbers. The more of us there are in attendance, the more effective and convincing we'll be.

Participate

  1. There are many un-filled positions on city and county boards and commissions. This is your opportunity to provide direct input into the operation of your government. If you don't do it, who will? Do you trust them with your tax dollars? Your property rights? Your liberty? Apply now!
  2. Enroll in our next "5,000 Year Leap" study group This is a 9 week course. The tuition is $25. This class will explain how and why the founding fathers formed our Republic. It is an outstanding course.
  3. Put a "We the People..." sign in your yard and look for other locations to put up a sign. To get a sign in your yard email Carl Olsen. (The Bellingham Tea Party would appreciate a donation to help defray the cost of producing the signs.)
  4. Put a "We'll Remember in November" bumper sticker on your car and wear your "American Flag/We the People" button wherever you go. The 2010 election is over, but there's always 2012! Always remember!
  5. Write a letter to the editor in local newspapers. Write an article for the Soap Box.
  6. Inform yourself about candidates running for office and get involved in their campaigns. Doorbell, make phone calls, stuff envelopes and write them a check. We must get people into office who believe in the founding principles.

Our Mission

Reverse deficit spending and the concentration of power in central government, in order to preserve states' rights and individual liberty for future generations.

The Bellingham Tea Party is a non-profit, non-partisan organization dedicated to better government through education e.g., The 5000 Year Leap and other activities. The goal of this website is to help -- and to encourage -- our readers to learn about the founding principles, and become informed about the issues and the candidates, and get involved!

Voting the party line every other November just isn't enough these days. We need to find and elect principled statesmen who will follow the Constitution. We'll remember in November! November 2012 is sooner than you think!

We the People

The first three words of the U.S. Constitution were chosen just a year ago as the rallying statement of the Bellingham Tea Party -- not lightly, but for a special reason. These words represent unity -- unity under the flag of liberty.

We The People

We the people are the rightful masters of both Congress and the courts,
not to overthrow the Constitution but to overthrow the men who pervert the Constitution.

~ Abraham Lincoln

"Literally millions of Americans have had enough. They're organizing, they're studying the Constitution and the Federalist Papers, they're reading history and case law, they're showing up at rallies and meetings, and a slew of conservative candidates are throwing their hats into the ring. Is there a revolution brewing? Yes, in the sense that there is a keen awareness that our priorities and sensibilities must be radically re-structured. Will it be a violent revolution? No. It will be done through the interpretation of the original document that has guided us for 220 years — the Constitution. Just as the pendulum swung to embrace political correctness and liberalism, there will be a backlash, a complete repudiation of a hundred years of nonsense. A hundred years from now, history will perceive the year 2010 as the time when America got back on the right track." (Continue reading...)
